What is a Reasonable Adjustment?
A reasonable adjustment is a change that helps people with a disability access healthcare services more easily. Examples include:
- Longer appointment times
- Providing information in alternative formats
- Ground-floor consultation rooms
- A quiet place to wait
- Communication support where required
What is the Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag?
The Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag (RADF) is an NHS initiative that allows reasonable adjustments to be recorded on your healthcare record.
This means that NHS services involved in your care can see what support you need and make appropriate adjustments to improve your healthcare experience.
Examples of organisations that may be able to view these adjustments include:
- GP practices
- Hospitals
- Community healthcare services
- Dentists
- Opticians
- Ambulance services
Who Can Benefit?
Reasonable adjustments are available for people whose physical or mental impairment has a substantial and long-term impact on their ability to carry out everyday activities, in line with the Equality Act 2010.
How Do I Request a Reasonable Adjustment?
If you require any reasonable adjustments to help you access our services, please speak to a member of our reception team or discuss this with your clinician.
With your consent, we can record your reasonable adjustments on your health record so that appropriate support can be provided whenever you access NHS services.
Further Information
For more information about reasonable adjustments, please speak to the practice or visit the NHS website.
